Frequently Asked Questions
What's the process to become a notary public?
There are three major steps to receiving a Colorado notary commission:
- Complete this online Colorado notary training course.
- Pass the Colorado Secretary of State's online notary exam.
- Submit your application to the Colorado Secretary of State online, including your certificate of training completion from this course and your exam certificate from passing the Secretary of State exam. Both of these are provided in a pdf format for easy online submission to the State.
We cover all of these steps in great detail during our Colorado notary training course. We also link to the appropriate pages on the Secretary of State's website to make it easy.
Can I stop and then resume the training at a later time?
Of course! We know that everyone's busy and it's hard to find time to take a course.
That's why the one-hour training video can be stopped and resumed at any time. To resume, simple scrub to (fast forward) the part where you left off when you log in again.
We recommend writing down the timestamp of where you left off to be sure you don't miss anything.
Please note that our notary training quiz (taken after watching the video) must be finished in one sitting since it's a test.
If you need to leave the training in the middle of the quiz you'll be given a new quiz when you come back.
I've never taken an online course before. How can I know if I'll do well?
If you can watch the video on this page, clicked to see this answer, and can fill out the form on the checkout page, then you have all of the technical skills necessary to succeed.
The Colorado notary training course contains a similar video, similar expandable content, and a quiz similar to the web form on the checkout page (but it's multiple choice).
What's the total cost to become a notary public?
Add the following items:
- The cost of this training course.
- The cost to apply to the State. Note that the State suggests that training vendors NOT quote this price so we're following the State's directions by asking you to look for this fee on its website.
- The cost of your supplies (e.g., seal/stamp and journal). Please refer to the next question for more information about this cost.
Since these prices can change and depend on what you decide to buy, it's hard to give an exact price, but the total cost for becoming a new Notary should be around or under $90.
That includes this training course, your state application fee, and all of the required supplies. But it might cost you more if you buy premium supplies or less if you buy budget supplies.
We've written a more detailed explanation here: How much does it cost to become a notary in Colorado?
Do you sell seals/stamps, journals, or other notary supplies?
Not directly, but it's because of a good reason that benefits you.
We've found that most training providers in general (not specifically notary training providers) are either notary supply sellers first and trainers second or trainers first and notary supply sellers second.
That means that they're usually not really good at both. Let us explain.
Suppose you sell notary supplies. One day you might realize that you can also sell notary training to your customers, but you're not really a trainer; you're a supplier. Since your specialty isn't training you might not make a great course.
Now suppose you're a trainer. You probably made a great notary training course, but one day you realize that you can make more money by selling notary supplies to your notary training customers. Since your specialty is not retail, you're probably not going to be able to offer the best prices.
We don't know which other notary training vendors that sell supplies are trainers first or which are suppliers first, but we do know that you can usually find supplies at much less expensive prices by purchasing them directly from suppliers that specialize in notary supplies.
We're a notary training company that specializes in training so we don't sell retail products. A seal shouldn't cost you more than about $10-$20 and a journal shouldn't cost more than about $15-$20.
Those are the prices you'll see if you go to someone that specializes in supplies. Training providers typically can't match these prices. That's why we have partnered with a supply company.
Please visit the Notary Supplies section of this site for more information.
A number of people in my office want to take your course. Do you give discounts to groups?
Of course! Please contact us for special group pricing. Please include the number of people in your group and when your group will take the course.
We don't make everyone finish the training at once so we can still offer a group discount even if you think your company might need to train multiple people over the course of a long period of time.
We also do not require any prepayment for group discounts. Simply pay the discounted price for each employee as you need to without tying up your budget with large bulk training package purchases.
What if I have questions before, during, or after the course?
We're here to answer all of your questions. Please use the contact form to email us or give us a call.
For answers to more questions, you can also visit our support center.
