Is Online Training Right for Me?

If you’re looking to become a Colorado notary, our state-approved online course covers everything including your certificate. Learn about the course

This is a question I have heard for over a decade. I started working with online learning in 2003 when I began teaching and developing courses for an online college. I caught the itch for online education and moved up the ranks. I went from teaching and developing courses to hiring teachers and course developers to hiring the people who hire those people. In short, I became the dean of an online college. It was there that I learned what makes a quality online course, and those lessons directly shaped our Online Colorado Notary Training Class.

The First Secret: Know Your Audience

Not everyone prefers online classes, but sometimes people need them. Online courses work around your schedule. You do not have to drive to a specific location, sit in a classroom for several hours, or rearrange your day. This is important for people who work full-time, have family obligations, or live far from the nearest in-person training option.

But some people who need an online course do not want to take one. They find technology intimidating or worry they will get stuck without someone to ask for help. To make the experience work for these people, the technology cannot get in the way of learning. The course platform has to be simple enough that all of your time goes into the content, not into figuring out the interface.

How Our Course Works

We built the course with familiar interfaces. If you have ever watched a video on YouTube, filled out an online form, and downloaded a file from a website, you have all the technical skills necessary to take our training. There is nothing to install, no special software, and no scheduled meeting times.

Here is what the experience looks like:

  • Log in on any device (computer, tablet, or phone) whenever you have time
  • Work through the lessons at your own pace
  • Watch short video segments with real examples of notarial acts
  • Take quizzes at the end of each section to check your understanding
  • Complete the practice exam at the end to prepare for the state test
  • Download your certificate of completion when you finish

The course covers everything the state requires: notary law, how to perform notarial acts, the application process, journal requirements, and stamp rules. We also include practical examples and scenarios that go beyond the minimum, so you are prepared for real situations you will encounter as a notary.

Online vs. In-Person Training

Colorado requires the same curriculum regardless of format. The Secretary of State approves all training vendors and reviews their course content before authorizing it. This means the legal content is the same whether you sit in a classroom or take the course online.

The differences are practical:

  • Online lets you start and stop as needed. In-person requires a continuous block of time.
  • Online works on your schedule. In-person requires you to show up at a specific time and place.
  • Online costs less in most cases because there is no classroom overhead. Our course is one of the lowest-priced state-approved options.

Both formats cover the same material and both result in the same certificate of completion that you submit to the state.

What If You Get Stuck

All of our students can contact us before, during, or after the course with any questions. We respond to every message. If something in the course is unclear, ask. If you have a question about a specific notarial situation that the course does not cover, ask. We would rather you ask than guess.
